Product
Inverta is a platform for solar installers. Each installer gets an AI-powered solar calculator with their own branding to share with prospects, usually on WhatsApp. It recommends the right system from the customer's actual appliance use, and every completed calculation lands in the installer's dashboard as a qualified lead they can quote.
Around the calculator, Inverta connects customers to finance partners and professional installers near them, gives installers quotation tools and a product catalog supplied by manufacturers, and teaches people about solar before they buy.
The problem
Esther spent her life savings, ₦850,000, on a solar system. Three months later it failed completely.
Esther runs a small business in Owerri. The battery was wrong, the wiring was wrong, and so was the installer. She was back to spending ₦40,000 a month on fuel.
- Customers don't know what to buy, who to trust or what it should cost. Most know their fuel bill and their appliances, not the inverter or battery size they need.
- Genuine installers struggle to reach informed customers. Without tools or visibility, they lose out to whoever quotes cheapest.
- Customers don't speak in kilowatts. Most people buying solar know what they spend on fuel and which appliances they want to run, not the inverter or battery size they need.
- Quoting is slow. Installers go back and forth over chat and spreadsheets before they can send a price, and leads go cold.
- Small installers look small. Without a website or tools, it's hard to look as credible as bigger competitors.
Who it's for
- Solar installers who want more qualified leads and faster quotes.
- Homes and businesses tired of fuel and grid costs who want to know what a system would cost them.
My role
I was Product Manager and led the build end to end, working with a tech lead, a design lead and a marketing lead.
- Designed the marketplace across energy assessment, AI-assisted system sizing, quotation and equipment payments, reaching ₦68M+ in GMV at a 10% take rate.
- Built two-sided onboarding and activation for customers and installers: installer workspaces, product catalogs and shareable calculator links that powered 25+ completed installations and ₦6.8M+ in commissions.
- Built the lead-capture and conversion loop: branded calculator links, AI-generated proposals and PDF quotations, monetised through a ₦9,999/month installer subscription alongside equipment commissions.
What we built
Key decisions
Ask about money, not watts
The calculator starts from what customers already know, like monthly fuel spend, and works out the system size for them.
Mobile-first, shared by link
Installers sell on WhatsApp, so the calculator had to load fast and work perfectly on a phone from a shared link.
The installer's brand, not ours
The customer sees the installer's name on every step. Inverta makes small installers look established rather than competing with them.
Traction
How it makes money
Installers pay ₦9,999 a month for the CRM, quotation builder, leads, catalog and education tools. Inverta also earns 10–20% commission on solar products installers buy through the platform, and referral fees from financing partners.
The goal
Help 10,000+ households adopt solar in 36 months, support 500+ technicians with better tools and steady income, and cut more than 15,000 tonnes of CO₂ a year by replacing diesel generators.
Key takeaways
- Meet customers in the language they already use; translation is the product's job.
- For SMB tools, distribution happens where the user already works. Here that was WhatsApp.
